Adam Weinstein is a Managing Director of New Mountain Capital, LLC, a New York based private equity, public equity and credit manager with over $15.0 billion in assets under management; he joined that organization in 2005. At New Mountain, he serves as the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Administrative Officer of the overall platform. Specifically, he spends his time helping to run the firm on a day to day basis, helping to oversee firm management and operations with the CEO, and helps to drive strategy and firm process. He is involved with portfolio company oversight, investor relations and is also responsible for the day to day oversight of the finance, fund operations, investor reporting, administrative and tax functions. He also serves as an Executive Vice President and is on the Board of Directors of New Mountain Finance Corporation, a publicly traded business development company (Ticker: NMFC) which houses New Mountain’s current debt platform. He previously worked at Deloitte & Touche, LLP, in that firm’s merger and acquisition and private equity investor services areas, with clients that included large and small blue chip private equity and venture capital firms. He is a New York State Certified Public Accountant and received his B.S., summa cum laude, from Binghamton University. He also sits on the board of the Great Oaks Foundation a lead not for profit charter school organization, sits on the boards of various other not for profit organizations and heads the grant board for a private foundation he founded. He also writes articles and thought pieces in a number of publications and speaks on various panels regarding issues affecting the alternative investment industry.
John Basile is a partner in the New York regional offices of Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP. He is the Regional Leader of the Financial Services practice group. John represents alternative investment funds and their managers, as well as broker-dealers and investment advisory firms. His responsibilities also include developing and implementing the firm’s strategies and developing the group’s key staff. John also serves as a member of the firm’s Board of Partners where his responsibilities include setting overall strategy for the firm as well as management oversight.
Robert E. Akeson is Chief Operating Officer of Mirae Asset Securities (USA) Inc., a subsidiary of Mirae Asset Financial Group, Korea’s leading financial group, that has $93 billion in assets under management.
Mr. Akeson has extensive experience managing prime brokerage, agency execution and research distribution businesses. He has also served as a member of the G.P. of a hedge fund and had advisory board experience with small money management firms. His background includes leadership positions with Neuberger Berman, Morgan Stanley, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Financial Services and ADP BISG.
Mr. Akeson is a frequent speaker on topics related to the hedge fund industry, prime brokerage, market liquidity and Basel III. He is Chairman of the Business Management Interest Group of the New York Society of Security Analysts, the DTCC Systemic Risk Roundtable and the Economic Club of New York. Mr. Akeson has also taught Money, Banking and Financial Markets at Molloy College.
Mr. Akeson holds an MBA from NYU and a BA from Washington College. He resides in Rockville Centre, N.Y. with his wife, with whom he has two grown children.
B.J. Bellock has over 25 years of experience in the financial industry, dedicating most of his career to working with Alternative Investors, including Hedge Funds, Venture Capital Funds and Private Equity Funds along with other Institutional Investors. He has served in senior positions including fixed income trading, sales and sales management at Bank Of America, Deutsche Bank, Common Wealth Bank of Australia and Dean Witter. He also has extensive experience as a former Financial Consultant. As an adjunct Professor, he has taught various undergraduate financial courses at the Connecticut campus of Phoenix University, as well running seminars for students and the public, and is certified to teach Corporate Training classes. Currently BJ is working as an independent consultant. He holds a Masters in Finance and a Masters in Accounting from the Fordham University Graduate School of Business.
Pierre is an angel investor, an entrepreneur, a corporate growth advisor, and the father of four college-age children. He is also a Partner at HPM Partners where, with his 32 partners and 50 associates in six offices, he works with owners of businesses on their growth strategies, M&A, financing, liquidity, wealth management, cross-border/multi-national issues, estate planning and tax strategies; and for his multi-generational and family clients, he brings several lifetimes of dealing with family dynamics, trusts, business-ownership, family charters and youth education as a member of two large, historic business families. Before HPM Partners, Pierre was at Two Sigma Investments, where he raised capital for the firm’s quant hedge funds and he invested capital in private deals in Mainland China and elsewhere. Previously he was an entrepreneur, co-founding three software companies resulting in one IPO in 1993, one acquisition that led to an IPO in 2010, and one total disaster. After getting a BScE at Princeton in 1982, Pierre started his career at Bolt, Beranek & Newman (BBN) as a research scientist and software engineer in computational linguistics, parallel processing, and statistical data analysis.
Ashley has been in the FX industry for over 10 years in a variety of positions, both in his native England and in the US. At AFEX he is currently responsible for the acquisition, management and maintenance of corporate, institutional and high net worth clients. Specifically focused on the ‘Alternative Investment’ space in North America, Ashley has created a vast network of highly skilled professionals that can assist with every aspect of a cross border transaction. He is often engaged to speak on foreign exchange strategies at networking and partner events. Ashley also leads the New York office of AFEX. Under his watch the team has doubled in size and has developed expertise in a variety of industries. Ashley holds a BA honors degree in Services Marketing and Economics from the University of Bournemouth in England. She was responsible for hedge fund marketing, public/investor relations and marketing financial products to global public companies. Before joining Southridge, Gabrielle worked for Kroll Inc., Grey Group Inc., and the investment banking division of Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc. Throughout her career, Gabrielle has been an active volunteer and currently holds leadership positions with not-for-profit and philanthropic organizations focused on the financial services industry, women’s initiatives and children’s development. Stuart Koonce is a partner in Sidley Austin’s Investment Funds, Advisers and Derivatives practice. His practice focuses on private alternative investment funds—their structuring, management and related regulatory matters. He advises investment advisers in domestic and international offerings of hedge funds, private equity-style funds and funds of funds. His funds practice includes the representation of advisers of funds with a broad variety of strategies, from long-short equity funds to volatility funds with complex options strategies and funds focused on distressed and special opportunity fixed-income investments. Eric S. Lazear re-joined IAM in May 2014 as COO and CCO, International Asset Management Limited, LLC, responsible for US Operations, Global Operational Due Diligence and US Compliance. He has over 22 years of investment management experience and over 13 years of experience in the hedge fund and fund of hedge funds industry. Prior to re-joining IAM, he was Global Head of Operational Risk at FQS Capital Partners. Previously, he launched the Global Hedge Fund Operational Risk Due Diligence service at Duff & Phelps and was also Global Head of Operational Risk and Due Diligence at FIM USA. He has also held Financial Consulting and Risk roles at J.P.Morgan Chase and W. J. Nolan & Company. Jonathan Luttwak is Co-Head of Global Alternative Investment Services at Cushman & Wakefield. He founded and currently leads a global team of professionals that specialize in the commercial real estate needs of the alternative investment community. Jon has been a real estate professional since his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army in 2005 and has been directly involved with hundreds of complex real estate transactions. He focuses on office leasing in midtown but through his team can seamlessly incorporate all of Cushman’s services including real estate equity and debt, office leasing, property appraisal, and project management in key markets around the world. Prior to beginning his real estate career, Jonathan served as a United States Army officer, reaching the grade of captain. He deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003 and also supported operation Enduring Freedom in Kuwait following September 11th. Jon graduated from the United States Military Academy with a B.S. in systems engineering and received his MBA from Columbia Business School. Sarah Tomolonius is the Vice President of Marketing and Investor Relations at Arlon Group, a good and agriculture investment firm. Prior to joining Arlon, she was an Investor Relations Associate with Citi Private Equity/StepStone Group LLC from 2008-2010; a Research Analyst with Edelman from 2005-2007; and a Program Assistant for the Water and Coastal Program of the Natural Resources Defense Council from 2002-2005. Bob has over 30 years of experience in the hedge fund business. His background includes trading, research and raising assets. Bob began his hedge fund career in 1987 as Bruce Kovner’s trading assistant at Caxton, which grew to be one of the largest Global Macro Hedge Funds. Bob was later the CIO of the fund of funds business at EGM in San Francisco and then the senior hedge fund analyst at Kenmar a large fund of funds based in Greenwich CT. Bob began his career on Wall Street in Shearson’s commodity research department as a chartist / technical analyst back when you had to draw charts by hand.
