John Basile is a partner in the New York regional offices of Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP. He is the Regional Leader of the Financial Services practice group. John represents alternative investment funds and their managers, as well as broker-dealers and investment advisory firms. His responsibilities also include developing and implementing the firm’s strategies and developing the group’s key staff. John also serves as a member of the firm’s Board of Partners where his responsibilities include setting overall strategy for the firm as well as management oversight.
Robert E. Akeson is Co-Head of Prime Brokerage for Mirae Asset Securities (USA) Inc., which operates a leading institutional capital markets platform to service professional investors with complex global needs. The firm is affiliated with Mirae Asset Financial Group, Korea’s leading non-bank financial services firm that has, as of September 2019, $396 billion in assets under management. The Group operates in 14 different country markets
Mr. Akeson has extensive experience managing prime brokerage, capital introduction, agency execution and research distribution businesses. He has also served as a member of the G.P. of a hedge fund and had advisory board experience with small money management firms. His background includes leadership positions with Neuberger Berman, Morgan Stanley, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Financial Services and ADP BISG.
Mr. Akeson is a frequent speaker on topics related to the hedge fund industry, prime brokerage, market liquidity and Basel III. He is Chairman of the Business Management Interest Group of the New York Society of Security Analysts, the DTCC Systemic Risk Roundtable and the Economic Club of New York. Mr. Akeson has also taught Money, Banking and Financial Markets at Molloy College.
Mr. Akeson holds an MBA from NYU and a BA from Washington College. He resides in Rockville Centre, N.Y. with his wife, with whom he has two grown children.
Kunjan Mehta is a partner at Grant Thornton LLP, a global audit, tax and advisory organization, where he primarily focuses on assurance and auditing services for hedge funds, private equity funds and broker dealers. Kunjan has written thought leadership pieces for the firm and is actively involved in technical trainings within his firm. Kunjan is also a member of the New York State Society of CPA’s Private Equity Committee and serves as the Co-Vice President of Membership with ASCEND. Kunjan is a licensed CPA in the US as well as a Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. He graduated from Gujarat University in India with a Bachelors in Finance and Accounting.
B.J. Bellock has over 25 years of experience in the financial industry, dedicating most of his career to working with Alternative Investors, including Hedge Funds, Venture Capital Funds and Private Equity Funds along with other Institutional Investors. He has served in senior positions including fixed income trading, sales and sales management at Bank Of America, Deutsche Bank, Common Wealth Bank of Australia and Dean Witter. He also has extensive experience as a former Financial Consultant. As an adjunct Professor, he has taught various undergraduate financial courses at the Connecticut campus of Phoenix University, as well running seminars for students and the public, and is certified to teach Corporate Training classes. Currently BJ is working as an independent consultant. He holds a Masters in Finance and a Masters in Accounting from the Fordham University Graduate School of Business.
Pierre is an angel investor, an entrepreneur, a corporate growth advisor, and the father of four college-age children. He is also a Partner at HPM Partners where, with his 32 partners and 50 associates in six offices, he works with owners of businesses on their growth strategies, M&A, financing, liquidity, wealth management, cross-border/multi-national issues, estate planning and tax strategies; and for his multi-generational and family clients, he brings several lifetimes of dealing with family dynamics, trusts, business-ownership, family charters and youth education as a member of two large, historic business families. Before HPM Partners, Pierre was at Two Sigma Investments, where he raised capital for the firm’s quant hedge funds and he invested capital in private deals in Mainland China and elsewhere. Previously he was an entrepreneur, co-founding three software companies resulting in one IPO in 1993, one acquisition that led to an IPO in 2010, and one total disaster. After getting a BScE at Princeton in 1982, Pierre started his career at Bolt, Beranek & Newman (BBN) as a research scientist and software engineer in computational linguistics, parallel processing, and statistical data analysis.
Gabrielle Guttman is the President and Founder of Connext Consulting Inc., a business development, strategic introductions, marketing, events and PR/IR consultancy. Prior to founding Connext, Gabrielle was VP of Business Development & Marketing for Southridge LLC. She was responsible for hedge fund marketing, public/investor relations and marketing financial products to global public companies. Before joining Southridge, Gabrielle worked for Kroll Inc., Grey Group Inc., and the investment banking division of Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc. Throughout her career, Gabrielle has been an active volunteer and currently holds leadership positions with not-for-profit and philanthropic organizations focused on the financial services industry, women’s initiatives and children’s development. Notable affiliations include 100 Women in Hedge Funds, HedgeNY, Portfolios with Purpose, ALTSO, High Water Women, the Hedge Fund Association, the Connecticut Hedge Fund Association, and Barnard Business and Professional Women. Gabrielle graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in Economics from Barnard College, Columbia University.
Michael Medvinsky is the CEO of Nedelma, which offers an intuitive, financial business intelligence (BI) platform that works across numerous devices (desktop, the iPad and others) and can be used without any IT involvement. Nedelma is the winner of the Hedgeweek USA Awards 2015, the Best Fund Accounting and Reporting Systems Firm. Prior to founding Nedelma, Michael has held senior technology positions at Goldman Sachs, UBS and GE Capital.
With more than 25 years of experience at asset management, research, regulatory, distribution and financial service operations firms, Peter shares a wide view perspective with those he supports. Tenures included Citi, Alliance, Argus Research, ADP, and Computershare. Entrepreneurial, he has owned two firms in the alternative energy and sales distribution/marketing advisement sectors. He is actively engaged with the charity ParentJobNet.org that provides holistic career planning for those in needy communities. Peter is a Certified Financial Planner (TM) and former series 7 and 24.
Britt Erica Tunick is a Senior Consultant specializing in media relations, corporate positioning, content creation and event planning. She is an award-winning journalist with nearly 20 years of experience writing about the financial services industry. Britt is a former senior writer for AR Magazine (Absolute Return & Alpha), where she wrote cover stories and in-depth profiles on many of the hedge fund industry’s biggest and most influential firms, as well as comprehensive features on a range of topics in the alternative investment industry. Prior to AR, she was an editor at Alpha Magazine, an in-house editor for KPMG’s M&A practice, and a senior editor at Investment Dealers’ Digest Magazine. She also spent two years in London, where she reported on European and U.K. startups for EO News and wrote stories for Euromoney Magazine, the Sunday Business and the Financial Times. Britt also has significant event planning experience from programming multiple panels and lining up high profile speakers for hedge fund symposiums, to organizing and running monthly networking events and an annual black tie gala, managing the database and website for a membership organization and coordinating and running a major fundraiser attended by more than 1,300 people for a non-profit organization. Britt holds a bachelor’s degree in English/Journalism from Pepperdine University and a master’s degree in Public Affairs Reporting from the American University School of Communication in Washington D.C. She was the 2006/2007 president of the New York Financial Writers’ Association and a member of the organization’s board of governors from 2002 to 2012. She is also a member of 100 Women in HedgeFunds, the Society of American Business Editors & Writers and serves as co-chair of the Ridgewood Working Women’s Group. Britt is the July 2010 recipient of the American Society of Business Publication Editors’ Northeast Region Silver Azbee award and received 1st and 3rd place editorial awards from Euromoney/Institutional Investor in 2009. In 2008 she was awarded the New York Financial Writers’ Association’s Emil Meier Award.
Ashish is a corporate governance and global strategy advisory professional, currently serving as the Managing Director of Wall Street Board, a New York based corporate governance and management consulting company. Ashish has more than 15 years of extensive experience in the investment banking and management consulting industry, which includes strategic advisory services to executive management on governance, business performance and development. He has worked in the United States and India with large investment banks where he advised on various mergers and acquisitions transactions for multinational businesses operating in a range of industries that includes alternative investments, being on both buy and sell sides of the deals. Ashish is a Harvard Business School alumnus, with a doctorate degree in business management, and an MBA degree in finance. He is a graduate in law and holds a BS in physics and mathematics. He serves on the board of various organizations and is a member of the Dow Jones & Company’s Market Watch Opinion Board. He is a frequent speaker at professional groups and executive forums.
Bob has over 30 years of experience in the hedge fund business. His background includes trading, research and raising assets. Bob began his hedge fund career in 1987 as Bruce Kovner’s trading assistant at Caxton, which grew to be one of the largest Global Macro Hedge Funds. Bob was later the CIO of the fund of funds business at EGM in San Francisco and then the senior hedge fund analyst at Kenmar a large fund of funds based in Greenwich CT. Bob began his career on Wall Street in Shearson’s commodity research department as a chartist / technical analyst back when you had to draw charts by hand. Longship raises assets for a few select hedge fund managers that we have known for a long time. We believe in the wisdom of grey hair, we earned every one of them.
Marc Schneider is founder of Twelve Lions Capital, a financial advisory, consulting and investment management firm. Prior to founding Twelve Lions, Schneider was a Managing Director of Avenue Capital Group, where he was responsible for Avenue’s European Funds’ investments in the basic materials sectors. Before that, he was a Director in the Investment Banking Department of Salomon Smith Barney. Before moving into finance, Schneider practiced corporate law for Cravath, Swaine & Moore and for Stroock & Stroock & Lavan. He holds a bachelor of science in industrial engineering from Lehigh University and a Juris Doctor degree from theUniversity of Miami School of Law, where he graduated magna cum laude.
Mithra Warrier joined TD Securities in November 2017 and is Managing Director, US Head of Prime Brokerage Sales. Her responsibilities cover the client facing activities of TD Prime Services, which include origination, client service, and capital introduction.
Prior to joining TD, Mithra was at Barclays, where she held several roles in prime brokerage including origination sales, hedge fund financing, and Head of Client Service.
Mithra joined Barclays through the acquisition of Lehman Brothers in 2008. At Lehman Brothers, Mithra was a member of the repo desk and held both sales and trading roles.
Mithra is a member of TD Securities Women in Leadership and co-chairs TD Securities’ Minorities in Leadership in the U. S. Mithra graduated from Northwestern University in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts In Economics.
Lawrence D. Bartimer, CPA, Managing Director, has worked in the investment field for over 35 years. At PSG, Larry oversees the firm’s hedge fund investments and is a member of the investment committee. He began his career as a CPA with KPMG, prior to attending graduate school. He then spent 16 years in fixed income, institutional sales and trading at firms such as Citibank, UBS and First Union. In 2000, Larry was a founding partner and President of an Internet firm, Mployees. Prior to joining PSG in 2006, he was with a Fund of Funds, where he was responsible for their emerging manager development practice, as well as being involved in client development. Larry received an undergraduate degree in 1978 at the State University of New York at Albany in Accounting and Business, and earned an MBA from The Wharton Business School.
Patrick Hannon is a Managing Director at Trigon Investment Advisors where he is responsible for the strategic planning and implementation of all sales and marketing activities. Before joining Trigon in January of 2015, Mr. Hannon held a similar position at NuWave Investment Management, a New Jersey-based hedge fund that offers systematic cash equity & managed futures strategies. From September 1999 to February 2010, Mr. Hannon was a Vice President within the Morgan Stanley Alternative Investments Division where his responsibilities included various aspects of due diligence and manager selection for the Managed Futures department, as well as expanding the department’s business development and client education efforts. Prior to his role at Morgan Stanley, he worked in the United States Senate for Senator Alfonse D’Amato and Senator Charles Grassley focusing on foreign relations, finance, and banking-related issues. Mr. Hannon received a B.A. from Loyola University of New Orleans and has the official designation of the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Association (CAIA).
Lance Klima has spent over two decades working at the intersection of finance and sales – leveraging strong relationships that span private equity, Wall Street, and hedge funds alike and a deep knowledge of financial products to build entire departments from the ground up into multi-million dollar earners.
He is currently Head of Business Development for Thames Capital Management which is an Absolute Return Hedge Fund, where he is responsible for the raising capital and managing business relationships.
Prior to Thames Capital, Klima worked at Bank of America as a managing director, where he was responsible for the global allocation for the bank’s resources within capital markets (both equities and FICC) for a multitude of clients that spanned hedge funds, private equity firms – focusing on prime brokerage, swaps, derivatives, and high touch trading – while maximizing
results across structured finance, balance sheet financing, FICC, equities, and investment banking departments.
Before joining Thames Capital, he was a senior managing director at Guggenheim Partners, where he was the architect of their institutional equity business – building the division to a group of over 100 professionals managing millions of dollars on an annual basis as well as operations, technology and talent acquisition. Klima was also a member of Guggenheim Partners Broker Dealer Operating Committee (Equity, Fixed Income and Banking). And prior to that, he was with Guggenheim Partners, where he generated over $90mm in revenues his last year at Bear Stearns as an equity salesperson and relationship manager, where he sold every product the firm offered: from equities, prime brokerage, and derivatives to merchant banking, private equity, and fixed income.
Klima started his career at JPMorgan Chase as vice president of sales, where he oversaw the research sales coverage for the companies’ institutional accounts spanning the northeastern United States. He is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island and was elected into the University of Rhode Island Athletic Hall of Fame.
Daniel Fischer (Dan) is a Senior Managing Director and Global Head of Foreign Exchange Sales at Cantor Fitzgerald & Co where he has worked since 2014. Mr. Fischer manages a team of voice and electronic traders utilizing a platform that focuses on hedge funds, CTAs and other professional investors.
Mr. Fischer has a great deal of leadership experience in capital markets. Prior to joining Cantor Fitzgerald, he was co-head of Foreign Exchange (FX) Prime Brokerage and e-Commerce Distribution for Société General/ Newedge. His prior roles include: Head of North America FX Sales for Natixis, and Global Head of Foreign Exchange Sales & Marketing at Bear Stearns & Co.
Mr. Fischer also has extensive experience in the alternative investment space as both an investor and marketer. Before joining Bear Stearns, Mr. Fischer was a Marketing Manager for Lehman Brothers Global Asset Management in London, where he was responsible for the distribution of Lehman’s off-shore hedge funds, fund of funds products, and managed futures investments. Prior to joining Lehman Brothers, Mr. Fischer was head of New Business Development at Chang Crowell Management, a Connecticut based alternative investment manager.
Mr. Fischer began his financial career at the FINEX division of the NY Cotton exchange, where he marketed the US Dollar Index Futures and Options.
Mr. Fischer holds a dual MBA in Finance and International Business from New York University and a Bachelors of Arts degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
