In Conversation With Marc Lasry

The New York Alternative Investment Roundtable’s February event will feature a conversation with Marc Lasry, the Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Avenue Capital Group, who will discuss his views on the market the credit cycle and the current environment for investing in distressed debt and other special situations, among other things.
Lasry has focused on distressed investing for more than 35 years. Prior to co-founding Avenue Capital Management as an independent entity, he managed capital for Amroc Investments, which at that time was affiliated with Acadia Partners, an investment partnership whose general partners included Keystone, American Express and the Equitable Life Assurance Society of America. Before that, he was co–director of the Bankruptcy and Corporate Reorganization Department at Cowen & Co. Earlier in his career he served as director of the Private Debt Department at Smith Vasiliou Management Company and also clerked for the Honorable Edward Ryan, former Chief Bankruptcy Judge of the Southern District of New York. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and serves on various other boards of advisors and as a director for both for-profit and not-for-profit private and public companies.
Lasry holds a bachelor of arts in history Clark University (1981) and a Juris Doctor degree from New York Law School.
The event will be moderated by Marc Schneider, founder of Twelve Lions Capital, a financial advisory, consulting and investment management firm. Prior to founding Twelve Lions, Schneider was a Managing Director of Avenue Capital Group, where he was responsible for Avenue’s European Funds’ investments in the basic materials sectors. Before that, he was a Director in the Investment Banking Department of Salomon Smith Barney. Before moving into finance, Schneider practiced corporate law for Cravath, Swaine & Moore and for Stroock & Stroock & Lavan. He holds a bachelor of science in industrial engineering from Lehigh University and a Juris Doctor degree from theUniversity of Miami School of Law, where he graduated magna cum laude.
