Global Macro –A Look Ahead

For Global Macro Advisors, market disruptions from Brexit to a potential trade war with China offer both opportunities and significant risks. Within the U.S. and internationally, there are countless issues that could potentially impact investment choices of global macro investors in both the near future and further down the road. The New York Alternative Investment Roundtable’s November event will feature a panel of industry experts who will share their thoughts and various perspectives on the asset class and some of the things the alternative investment community should consider when investing.
Moderator Susan Webb of Appomattox will be joined by a panel including Exelauno’s Spencer Lampert, Paul Lucek of Ridgedale and Eric Peters of One River Asset Management for a discussion regarding some of the biggest issues facing the global macro landscape.
Spencer Lampert is Chairman and CIO of Exelauno. Prior to joining Exelauno he spent nearly three decades at Tudor Investor Corp., where he was a partner and senior portfolio manager for the Tudor BVI and the Tudor Discretionary Macro funds. Other positions he held at Tudor include co-head of the firm’s long/short equity department and the global head of macro research. Mr. Lampert holds a bachelor of arts from Northwestern University and a masters in management from Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
Paul Lucek is CEO and co-CIO of alternative investment firm Ridgedale Advisors, which takes a systematic, global macro approach to investing. He heads up the firm’s portfolio management, development of new investment and risk management strategies and co-heads its investment committee. Prior to joining Ridgedale, Mr. Lucek was CEO and CIO of SSARIS, where he previously served as that firm’s director of research. Before joining SSARIS he developed quantitative algorithms for trading stock index futures –knowledge he used to launch SITE Capital Management, which focused on systematic equity derivatives and options strategies. He was also part of the Human Genome Project at Columbia University as a candidate in the MD/PhD program and holds a bachelor of arts and a master of arts from Harvard University.
Eric Peters is the founder, CEO and CIO of One River Asset Management, where he oversees the firm’s business development and strategic initiatives and serves as chairman of its investment committee. He is also the author of Weekend Notes, a private weekly investment newsletter read by global investment professions who together deploy more than $800 billion in alternative assets. Prior to founding One River Asset Management he was chairman of Grant Capital Partners, a $1.25 billion discretionary global macro hedge fund, where he focused on thematic investment opportunities and oversaw the firm’s chief risk officer and non-investment activities. Other previous roles include a stint as a portfolio manager for Peloton Partners and positions as a proprietary trader for both Lehman Brothers and Credit Suisse. He was also the founder and chief executive officer of a technology firm backed by TH Lee Putnam. Mr. Peters has a bachelor of arts in business economics from Brown University.
Susan Webb is president and CIO of Appomattox Advisory, a woman owned investment firm with approximately $2 billion in assets under management. Ms. Webb is a member of the firm’s investment committee, which is responsible for identifying and evaluating managers and managing portfolios. Prior to co-founding Appomattox, she was head of First Atlas Capital, the SEC Registered Advisor of global fund of hedge fund firm Atlas Capital. Other previous positions include working on the trading desks of Citibank, Paribas Capital Markets and CIBC. In addition to that, she was also a managing director at Caisse des Depots, where she established that firm’s U.S. credit derivative and synthetic CLO and hedge fund structuring business. Ms. Webb is a member of GTI Capital Group’s board; is on the board of High Water Women, and is on the advisory board of Catalyst Financial Partners. She holds a bachelor of arts from the University of Virginia and an MBA from the University of Virginia’s Darden School.
