Complexities of the Coronavirus From an Employer Perspective

In lieu of an in-person event, the New York Alternative Investment Roundtable’s April event will be done as a Webex/conference call.
But we’re keeping things timely and topical and are putting together a panel of industry professionals who will delve into various aspects of how the coronavirus is impacting the way the alternative investment industry -and the world as a whole, is currently doing business.

Robert Akeson is Co-Head of Prime Brokerage for Mirae Asset Securities, a subsidiary of Mirae Asset Financial Group, Korea’s leading financial group, which has $93 billion in assets under management. He has extensive experience managing prime brokerage, agency execution and research distribution businesses, and has also served as a member of the G.P. of a hedge fund where he had advisory board experience with small money management firms. His background includes leadership positions with Neuberger Berman, Morgan Stanley, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Financial Services and ADP BISG. Robert is a frequent speaker on topics related to the hedge fund industry, prime brokerage, market liquidity and Basel III. He is Chairman of the Business Management Interest Group of the New York Society of Security Analysts, the DTCC Systemic Risk Roundtable and the Economic Club of New York. He has also taught Money, Banking and Financial Markets at Molloy College.
Sandeep Kumbhat is Director/Master Principal Solutions Architect for identity and access management company Okta. As a veteran of the security, privacy and identity and access management industry, he helps Okta’s most complex global customers adopt cloud technologies and manage their hybrid Identity & Access Management and Zero Trust based business and technical requirements. Before joining Okta he worked with various organizations including Oracle, Sun Microsystems, HP and Accenture in their engineering and product/enterprise architecture domains. He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and has attained certification from Harvard University on how to manage cybersecurity risk in the information age and is a frequent speaker on the importance of various privacy and compliance regulations.
Charles Morgan is a Partner in the Atlanta office of Alston & Bird, where he concentrates his practice in litigation, government and internal investigations, including occupational safety and health, employment and traditional labor matters. He represents Fortune 500 companies, retailers, manufacturers and privately held organizations across the U.S. in investigations and litigation involving accidents and safety issues, in class and collection actions, and in anti-union campaigns. He also develops programs and training initiatives for compliance with safety and health laws and federal sentencing guidelines. He has significant experience trying cases in both federal and state courts throughout the nation and has handled class actions involving alleged violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and in trials concerning discrimination and harassment and other labor and employment issues. Charles has been recognized by Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business as a leading lawyer in Labor & Employment (2014) and is regularly listed in The Best Lawyers in America©.
- Lisa Roitman, General Counsel for Pollen Street Capital
Lisa Roitman is General Counsel for Pollen Street Capital. She has spent nearly 25 years in financial services with a primary focus on capital markets, securitization, structured finance and technology. Previously, she served as General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer for SEC registered investment advisory firms in both the restructuring and event driven space as well as managed futures. Much of her career was spent on the sell-side at UBS, HSBC and Lehman Brothers, where she focused on structuring and marketing complex financial transactions in equity, credit and fixed income assets for hedge funds, fund of hedge funds, pensions and endowments. Immediately prior to joining Pollen Street, she was a marketing and business strategist at Bloomberg LP in their Enterprise Data division with a focus on regulatory compliance technology around data protection, KYC and AML.
